This policy explains what information High Desert Crime Tracker (operated by The KELO Group LLC) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't run advertising trackers.
What we collect
When you visit the site:
- A basic visit log: the page viewed, the time, your IP address, and the page that referred you. If you allow your browser to share your location, we also record that location with the visit, which we use to understand how many visits come from the local area.
- Ads served and clicked on the site are counted in the same way.
If you create an account:
- Your name, email address, and username; your password, which we store only in scrambled (hashed) form; your account status; and when you last signed in.
- Billing: payments are handled by Stripe. We keep Stripe's customer and subscription IDs, never your card number.
- Proximity alerts: the pin location we get from the address you enter (we don't keep the street address itself), a nickname, your distance, and how often you want alerts. We also keep a short record of alerts queued or sent for you, for up to 90 days after they're sent.
- How many property reports you've used.
If you advertise or contact us: your business and contact details, and what you tell us in messages or forms.
Cookies
We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It's needed for the site to work and isn't used for tracking. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. Some services we load, such as Stripe on payment pages, may set their own cookies under their own policies.
How we use information
- To run HDCT: sign you in, provide the dashboard and reports, send the alerts you ask for, and process payments.
- To email you about your account, such as confirmations, receipts, payment problems, and important changes.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that help us run HDCT, and only what they need:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Mailgun — delivering our emails, including alerts.
- Google — turns addresses you type into map locations, provides maps and fonts. Your IP address and the text of the address you enter go to Google when it's used.
- Our hosting provider — stores the site and its data.
- Content delivery networks (such as jsDelivr and Cloudflare's cdnjs) — deliver standard site code, so they see your IP address when your browser loads it.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information. We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open and for a reasonable time afterwards for records and to resolve disputes. Alert history is cleared 90 days after sending. Visit logs are kept for as long as they're useful for understanding site usage and preventing abuse. You can ask us to delete your account and personal information at any time (see below).
Your choices and rights
- Update your name, email, and password from My Account, and change or pause your alerts from the Alerts section.
- Cancel your subscription any time from My Account → Billing.
- Use our contact page to ask to see what we have about you, correct it, or delete it. We'll respond within 45 days. If you're a California resident, you have these rights under California privacy law, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
- Turn off location sharing in your browser settings at any time.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed, and payments never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
HDCT isn't directed to children under 13, and accounts are for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, for account holders, let you know by email.
